When You Woke Up

“I closed my eyes for a moment and when I opened them I found myself in hell and this is what it looked like, this is what I saw”
I saw an island with a population of less than 3 million people, an island that is not involved in war, yet has the highest murder rate in the world per capita; the most churches per capita, the most denominations per capita; a place where 80% of the wealth is controlled by 20% of the people; a place where no one cares unless it affects them personally.

I heard children speak with hatred and bitterness as though it was the norm. I watched people carry out evil deeds even though they knew it was wrong. I saw people, un-educated who were willing to do anything for money, I saw young girls, children crying uncontrollably while dirty old men pull up their pants, clean up themselves and go home to their family. I saw no love, I saw no peace but I could feel the wrath of the savage beast.
When I opened my eyes I found my self in a cold sweat feeling as though I’ve just experienced death, I quickly caught my breath and wiped away the sweat.

Then I heard the wind whistle in the trees, I realize that in order to experience heaven, I need to recognize and appreciate moments like these and that my dream was simply a wake up call that highlighted to me where we are having our down fall. In order for us to turn this back into the paradise it is is not dificult at all, “it’s simply all for one and one for all.”
It was at that moment that it occured to me, perhaps there is a land beyond the sea, where some day I would like to be, where no one kills and no one steals and no one gains from shady deals. Then I thought, no I saw clearly, that this is that land beyond the sea and if I am looking for heaven I have to look within me.

So I ran to the mirror and pointed at me and started singing as though I am crazy:

“Whenever I’m with you I’m free. I am free. I’m free. For the first time in my life I feel completely free.”
